Course Description

This training is offered only to members of the NB Association of Municipal Administrators as part of the Municipal Management Training Program.

Virtual Mode.

The main objectives of this training course are:

Raise participants' awareness of the crisis risks threatening organizations on social media.
Provide the tools needed to manage these situations effectively.
Encourage the adoption of best practices to minimize risks and be better prepared.
At the end of this training course, participants will be able to quickly identify sensitive subjects likely to create tensions on social media, and anticipate them to better protect their organization.

They will learn to distinguish between a simple complaint and a real crisis, by understanding the specific characteristics of these situations on digital platforms.

We'll cover the basics of reacting appropriately to an online complaint, as well as common mistakes and how to avoid them.

Using numerous concrete examples drawn from the trainer's own experience, we'll provide practical advice and tools to help participants manage their own crises.

Throughout the course, a concrete scenario will illustrate how a complaint can evolve into a crisis in a municipal context. We will detail the actions required to defuse such situations, from setting up a crisis team to post-crisis monitoring.

Participants will learn how to write an effective crisis communiqué, identifying the essential elements to include and the mistakes to avoid. We'll also discuss best practices to adopt outside crisis periods, such as implementing a content management strategy to strengthen the link with the public.

Finally, we'll present key tools to implement, such as a policy for managing and using social media, netiquette, and approaches for dealing with cyberstalking.

Participants will leave with tools that can be easily reused within their organization.
